FRONTLINE VOICES Anthology Launched in Limerick

New collection amplifies the written experiences of care professionals and volunteers

FRONTLINE VOICES, an anthology gathering stories and poems from frontline workers in the caring professions, was launched today at Istabrack Hall in City Hall, Limerick.

The collection brings together written accounts from individuals whose daily work involves supporting people through challenging circumstances. The anthology is the result of a collaboration between the Limerick Writers’ Centre and the Mid-West Regional Drugs and Alcohol Forum (MWRDAF).

Professor Geraldine Mooney Simmie from the School of Education at the University of Limerick performed the official launch. Speaking at the event, she highlighted the importance of narrative in understanding the realities of care work.

The program also included addresses from:

  • Dominic Taylor, Director of the Limerick Writers’ Centre
  • Kieran Beville, Editor of the anthology
  • Michael Lacey, Chairman of the MWRDAF
  • Chief Superintendent Derek Smart, An Garda Síochána
  • Rory Keane, Regional Coordinator for the HSE Mid-West (CHO3) Drug and Alcohol Service

The launch concluded with readings by several contributors, who shared their work with the assembled audience.

FRONTLINE VOICES is published by the Limerick Writers’ Centre and is now available free to groups and organisations free of charge. For details contact the Forum at amcarey@mwrdtf.ie
